I am in the process of re-installing the original radio in my 83 SC after a PO hacked into the wiring harness for an aftermarket install. One year antivirus free download. I have searched and read much about the wiring, and I am OK with the power supply, but have some questions about speaker wiring. I have the original fader with the male 6-prong connector intact, but am missing the female connector. The radio has 1 speaker output for left and 1 for right. I understand that I will need '2 pin DIN' connectors for each. So, here are my questions: 1. What did the original harness look like between the radio and the fader? ![]() Price $165.00 Brand Other Seller mlfox Available on PelicanParts.com Location Southwestern Indiana Description. Was it one piece that connected to the speaker outputs on the radio, then to the fader, and then with speaker wire pigtails for the 4 speakers? What do each of the 6 wires for the fader represent? I assume 1 is a common ground, 2 are for the left and right inputs; but that leaves only 3 outputs. Did I read correctly that the factory fader combined the rear speakers into one channel? Is it even possible to locate an original harness? If not, what is the best source for the 6-pin connector to the fader and the 2-pin connectors for the radio? Finally, would it be best to bypass the fader entirely and connect the speakers directly to the radio (which has no built in fader capability)? Sorry for all of the questions, and thanks for any help. I just had a look at this, trying to install a radio and bypass the fader. As far as I could tell, the factory harness has 4 wires to the fader from the head unti plus 8 wires from the speakers. Somewhere in the harness these wires splince down to 6, which go in to the fader. I am guessing, L+, R+, in and L+, R+, and rear out with the grounds all spliced together. I bought a 2 pin DIN speaker cable on ebay and cut the ends off the cable 5. Probable the simplest. Split the signal for rear and front. Thanks Lawrence - that is what I suspected (1). My preferred option is to recreate the harness with the fader in line, assuming I can source the 2 pin DIN connectors AND a 6 pin female connector for the fader. I still need to find the pin out definitions for the 6 pin fader plug. Does anyone know which color wires on the fader switch do what (L&R inputs, L&R&rear outputs, ground (assume black)? Black = ground? I have looked in my Bentley and Haynes, but can't find what I am looking for. Blaupunkt Monterey Sqr 23 Manual TreadmillHere's some info I received from Scott Brotherton with Continental Imports regarding wiring for the radio. I followed his directions and the radio works properly! 'I have placed an image in this e-mail with a pin out of the Monterey SQR23. Number 4 is ground and #5 is switched 12 volts. Number 5 should turn on and off with the ignition key. Numbers 6 and 7 should have a short jumper wire between them. This allows the illumination to turn on when the radio turns on. If you want the illumination to turn on and dim with the vehicles dash lighting, then remove this jumper and #6 should be attached to a dash light wire. When using the dash lights to turn on the radios illumination, #7 is not used. Consequences of not activating software as a service examples. Number 8 is a 12 volt output for the antenna trigger. When the radio is turned on, #8 is powered and is meant to energize the antenna relay to make the mast go up. This is also used to turn on an amplifier (not to provide operational power to the amp, but to trigger the relay that powers the amp). Number 9 is for battery power. This is for the memory, so it needs constant power, even when the ignition key is turned off.' I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, just let me know. I have the owners manual and see no mention of recording capability. BRB-83-911SC, I too removed a cheap aftermarket radio/CD player and have re-installed a Monterey SRQ 23 in my SC. I had to buy mine though. Mine only supports two speakers and doesn't seem to have any real harness style hitchup so there must have been a bunch of different configurations for the same model number. I have a thread on Rennlist going with all the tips those guys had on ways to have a really cool sounding system and keep the original radio: Fortunately mine had the speaker wiring bungs included so I'm not facing that problem. There may be no solution for you other than taking the cover off (easy) and soldering and extending wires out the back from those spots on the schematic (much less easy). There are other issues that can be a challenge such as activating a power antenna like my car has. One neat idea is to use a relay to start the antenna. Another is a little conversion box that switches the speaker power from direct (about 8 W RMS) to RCA so you can hitch up an amplifier of any size you choose and also send a signal to turn on the amplifier. Many of the aftermarket amps have both RCA and standard direct inputs. ![]() The old heavy iron Denon amp I bought only had RCA so I found a nifty little conversion box. I've accumulated all the parts but haven't completed this project since I've got other more pressing jobs going on. I'm pretty sure it will all work well. See my email below if you want a little more detail; we can converse that way. The manual for the Monterey SRQ 23 is available both in paper and PDF but is ridiculously expensive (almost what I paid for my radio from a fellow Pelican). I doubt that there is a copyright issue so if you can scan it and send it to some emails of Monterey owners like me ([email protected]) I know I would really appreciate it.
